Friday 20th September marked the beginning of the ‘Orvis Residency’ at the showroom and factory of the iconic Birmingham based gun-makers – Westley Richards. The three-month collaboration will run through the fast-approaching Christmas period.
Founded in 1812 Westley Richards continues to lead the field in high art gun-making having built an unrivaled reputation as the finest engraver and embellisher of guns and rifles in the business. In the same vein, we are the oldest fly fishing company in the world, boasting a 150-year history of being at the forefront of cutting-edge fly-rod technology. Both share an illustrious heritage in the country sports world, so a partnership between the two seems very fitting indeed.
Anthony Alborough-Tregear, Managing Director of Westley Richards said: “As brands Westley Richards and Orvis have a great deal in common with 370 years of combined expertise in the manufacture of luxury sporting guns, rifles, rods, reels and ancillary products – it’s a perfect match. Many of our customers are also fly fishing enthusiasts and love their dogs, so it’s great to be able to give them another great reason to visit our incredible showroom and workshops.”
Amongst the selection of fine guns and accessories of Westley Richards store, we showcased a fantastic range of fishing and dog equipment. This means that in addition to the quality leather goods from Westley Richards, guests could also purchase a luxurious memory foam dog bed or perhaps a Helios3 fly rod. So, when the doors opened at 12 pm, guests were granted exclusive access to goods from one, if not both, of their favourite hobbies.
Brian Campbell-Kearsey, head of marketing here at Orvis UK said: “We’re thrilled to be teaming up with Westley Richards and for the chance to share our great fly fishing and dog collections with new people. We’re always looking to introduce more people to the amazing world of fishing, so this is a great chance to share our passion.”
In addition to perusing these sporting treasures, guests also had the opportunity to have a complimentary casting lesson from our very own expert – Keith Passant. Amongst those seeking to perfect their cast, complete beginners had a chance to cast a fly for the first time; this proved to be a massive hit, with many expressing the intention to take to the riverbank for the first time.
The event was also graced by ‘Bentley of Birmingham’, a third brand which possesses all the same prestigious hallmarks of Orvis and Westley Richards. Two Bentley Bentaygas took their spot at the front of the factory and certainly added some elegance and class to the whole occasion.
The resounding success of the day set the tone for what will be an exciting three months for the two brands. If you’re in the Midlands and you’re in the market for a new rod or a truly unique Christmas gift, why not see what Orvis and Westley Richards have on offer?
